Special treat – Saturday lunch with Jane!

Since it’s a different day of the week, the cupcake store had some new flavors, which if you read my post on Wednesday, you know made Jane happy. Today’s choice – chocolate raspberry truffle! Jane said it was good.

Jane was back to what I would consider her current normal. Not as engaged as she was Wednesday, but still happy to see me & had her moments of being aware. When we texted my dad to see what he was up to, he said he was eating bar-b-que & that made Jane smile a huge smile. Apparently that sounded good to her.

It was a little warmer outside today but still nice in the shade. We didn’t take as many laps today but had a nice chat while sitting under the shade of the trees. Jane tried to talk today, but her words really weren’t making sense. She did tell me she was tired & guided me back towards her house so we went inside sooner than normal. Everyone in her house seemed tired today so it was fairly quiet when we walked inside. We sat together on the couch watching tv. I asked Jane if she wanted a nap, but when we went to her room, she didn’t want to stay, which is fine. One of the caregivers working today – Beth – is really nice so I think Jane preferred to hang out near her. I like that Jane enjoys the company of her caregivers. I don’t worry about her safety or her feeling comfortable here – which if you have a loved one in an assisted living home, you know is a huge weight off the shoulders. We have also experienced a bad facility – I feel grateful we found a great home for Jane.

Jane & I were chatting up thoughts on my big plans for tomorrow – but you have to wait til tomorrow to find out about that. Only Jane knows my secret right now & she likes it that way.

Dementia does rob so much from us, but it doesn’t take away Jane’s desire to want to feel loved & involved. She has always – and still does – give me her honest opinion so if my plans don’t bring a smile to her face I know plans need to be adjusted.
